Sedgwick County Zoo

Sedgwick County Zoo offers an enriching Homeschool Expeditions program designed to provide in-depth, educational experiences for homeschool students in grades 1-5 (ages 6-12 years). These 90-minute classes cover a wide range of topics, including animal science, life science, and physical science, blending classroom learning with outdoor exploration within the zoo's unique setting.

Program Highlights:

  • Class Schedule: Classes are held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on select Wednesdays, ensuring that each session is accessible and convenient for homeschool families.

  • Interactive Learning: The program emphasizes adult interaction, allowing homeschool parents to actively participate and further explore subjects of interest at home with their children.

  • Educational Themes for 2024: The program offers a variety of themes throughout the year, including Fantastic Felines, Groupies, Tree Factory, Busy Bees Busy Blooms, Wet and Wild, Hide and Seek, Bear Necessities, Excellent Ectotherms, and Saving Animals From Extinction.

  • Ticket Information: Each participant over six months old must have an individual ticket, with special rates for Zoo members and non-members.

The Homeschool Expeditions program encourages students to dress appropriately for the weather, as classes may include outdoor activities. Adult attendance is required, ensuring a supportive and engaging learning environment for both children and their guardians.
